We were invited to take part in the Earth Week event at Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) on April 20th. The event brought together various environmental sustainability allies to raise awareness amongst HHS staff about environmental initiatives in the Hamilton and HHS communities.
Friendly Streets was happy to join and continue the conversation of how we can work together towards making our neighbourhoods more walkable and bikeable. Many employees contributed to the vision of what friendly streets can look like. Lots of interesting discussion took place about infrastructure that is needed in the built environment, as well as from employers, that would support individuals in using active transportation to and from work. The many elements of a friendly street that were identified by event attendees include bike lanes, more green space, gardens, proper lighting, and even sidewalks.
Thank you to Hamilton Health Sciences for inviting us to celebrate Earth Week! More coverage of the event here and by searching #myPlanetHHS on Twitter.
